Royale Union Saint-Gilloise Extends Unbeaten Run, Standard de Liège Falters

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise Continues to Impress

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise maintained their impressive form in the Belgian Pro League, extending their unbeaten streak to 15 matches with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over KV Kortrijk. The Brussels-based club, who won the Belgian Second Division last season, have been the surprise package of the campaign, challenging for the title and impressing with their attacking flair.

Against Kortrijk, Union took the lead through a stunning strike from Dante Vanzeir, who curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the area. Kortrijk pushed for an equalizer but were unable to break down a resolute Union defence, as the hosts held on to secure all three points.

Standard de Liège's Struggles Continue

In contrast to Union's success, Standard de Liège's struggles continued as they suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Club Brugge. The result leaves Standard in 12th place in the league, just four points above the relegation playoff spots.

Standard have now lost five of their last six league matches, with their only victory coming against bottom-of-the-table Zulte Waregem. The club's poor form has led to growing pressure on manager Ronny Deila, who has come under fire for his team's lack of consistency.
