National Weather Service Confirms Multiple Tornadoes

Damage Reported in Several Communities

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has confirmed multiple tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma on April 19, 2023. During the late afternoon hours, thunderstorms formed along a dryline and rapidly strengthened, producing brief but destructive tornadoes.

Initial damage reports indicate that towns in central and western Oklahoma have been affected, including Norman, Moore, and Newcastle. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but reports include downed power lines, damaged homes and businesses, and uprooted trees.

Tragically, three fatalities have been confirmed as a result of the storm system. Emergency responders are currently working to clear debris, restore utilities, and provide assistance to those affected.
