The Veil of the Temple Torn
A Sign of God's Judgment
Matthew 27:51
Then behold the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom And the earth quaked and the rocks were split
The temple was the place where animal sacrifices were carried out and worship according to the Law of Moses was followed faithfully. At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom. This was a significant event, as it symbolized the end of the old covenant and the beginning of the new covenant in Christ.
The tearing of the veil also signified that the way into the presence of God was now open to all people, through Jesus Christ. No longer was it necessary to offer animal sacrifices or to follow the strict rituals of the Law of Moses. Instead, people could come directly to God through faith in Jesus.
The tearing of the veil was a powerful sign of God's judgment on the old covenant and his mercy in establishing the new covenant. It is a reminder that we have access to God through Jesus Christ and that we are called to live in accordance with his will.
